What is Extended Access?
Extended Access is a technology system that provides self-service access to the library outside of staffed open hours at designated locations. It works similarly to college libraries, 24/7 gyms, co-working lofts, and other shared public spaces.
At this time, we are piloting the service at the Jordan Library only with a limited number of customers before making it available broadly. The service will provide access to the Jordan Library from 6:00am to 10:00pm, seven days a week.
How It Works
Customers scan their library card number and enter their PIN at an entry panel to unlock the door. Click here for a brief video demonstration. Once inside, they are free to use in-library resources and self-service equipment such as the self-checkout machines, computers, printers, copiers, and study rooms.
Note: Customers who wish to use meeting rooms in Belle Plaine, Elko New Market, Jordan, and Shakopee outside of staffed hours do not need to opt into Extended Access. Visit our Meeting Rooms page for details.
Join Our Pilot Group in Jordan
Our pilot begins September 1, 2021 at the Jordan Library. We seek 50 pilot participants to test the system and give feedback on how we can enhance the service. Before using the service, participants must:
- Attend a mandatory orientation with library staff (register for one):
PM Session: Monday August 16, 6:00-7:30
AM Session: Wednesday August 18, 10:00-11:30
- Sign an agreement acknowledging the Extended Access Policy. We will provide print copies at orientation.
- Have their library card number added to the Extended Access system. Make sure to bring your library card to orientation so we can ensure your card information is current. Staff will notify you by email when it has been activated.
