Customer Service

  1. State Motor Vehicle System: Elko New Market Service Center Closed, Changed Hours at Government Center for Title Transfers

    January 2, 2018, 8:00 AM - January 3, 2018, 5:00 PM @ Government Center

Due to the continuing issues with the state’s motor vehicle software system (MNLARS), effective January 1, 2018, we are making some changes to the hours in which we are accepting title transactions. Please keep in mind these changes do not affect our other services, such as tab renewals, driver’s licenses, birth certificates, marriage licenses, et cetera. At the Government Center in Shakopee, we will not be accepting titles after 3:30 PM daily (5:30 PM on Thursdays). Motor vehicle dealers must continue to be in line by 2 PM. Please be aware that the lines remain quite long, with wait times up to 60 minutes. Our Elko New Market service center will remain closed until the issues are fixed. These restrictions will continue until the system issues have been mitigated. We apologize for any inconvenience this causes our customers, and will keep them informed via our website and social media of any updates.

  1. Assessment Date

    January 2, 2018, All Day

All properties will be valued as of January 2 each year for taxes payable the following year. The January 2, 2018 valuation of property will be used in calculating property taxes for 2019. This lag in time is designed to allow time for taxpayers to appeal their property’s valuation and classification.
